G Sujit Verma (5th year, National Law University, Bhopal)
I am G. Sujit Verma, a final year law student from National Law Institute University, Bhopal. I have had the opportunity to work as an intern with WordictIP, the oldest boutique IP Law Firm in Hyderabad, with more than 25 years of experience in handling issues exclusively pertaining to Intellectual Property Rights & Technology Laws.
During the lockdown, the Partners of the firm, Mr. Ashok Ram Kumar & Mrs. Sheela Ram Kumar, paved way for a virtual internship program branded as ‘Virtutern’ which was launched on the 26th day of April, 2020, also celebrated as the World Intellectual Property Day.
This virtual internship offered a unique opportunity to students like myself, who are particularly interested to gain practical experience in the fields of Intellectual Property & Technology Laws. The program is specifically designed to cater to our academic needs when doing a physical internship due to the lockdown is not possible.
This Virtutern program has exposed me and my fellow interns to filing, legal research, client assistance and aiding lawyers with paperwork and courtroom preparation, in addition to research work and drafting articles on various contemporary issues in the field of Intellectual Property Law. The last working day of every week is thoughtfully reserved for a lecture taken by the WordictIP Team on the fundamentals of Intellectual Property, IP Litigation Practice and filing procedures therein.
I have also successfully participated in a Moot Court session organised by the WordictIP Team as part of the virtual internship. The problem of the moot included diverse issues on trademark and patent infringement, compulsory license and procedure before a civil court. This initiative of the WordictIP Team has ensured the quality of experience a student can attain and successfully bridged the gap between a physical and an online internship.
